ADSO MEDIA STATEMENT

GOVERNMENT DELIVERS ON ITS DFRB/DRFDB FAIR INDEXATION PROMISE

The Alliance of Defence Service Organisations (ADSO) thanks the Government for today introducing legislation to the House to restore fair indexation to DFRB and DFRDB military superannuation pensions, for those aged 55 and over. The legislation delivers on the Government commitment made to ADSO before the 2010 Federal election and reaffirmed in the run up to the election in 2013.

The legislation confirms that the provisions will apply equally to reversionary and invalidity pensioners 55 years and over as well.

In essence, these pensions will be indexed in the same way as Age and Service Pensions are indexed. This will remedy a serious inequity that has existed for over 20 years.

In thanking the Government for delivering on its promise, ADSO remains mindful that this key initiative is just the first step towards remedying the inequity still suffered by the under 55 DFRB/DFRDB recipients including invalidity superannuants and those in the Military Superannuation and Benefits Scheme.

All political parties and the Independents are now encouraged to not block this long awaited legislation.

ADSO looks forward to consulting with the Government on these and other issues affecting both the serving and the veterans’ communities. DVA Disability pensions fall into this category.
