Defence Department under fire over soldiers’ pay deal

The Labor Opposition  today demanded withdrawal of an offer which would see the 70,000 men and women in uniform receive a pay rise of just 1.5 per cent — if they surrender leave entitlements such as Christmas breaks.

“The Abbott Government should be ensuring a better deal for our ADF personnel, especially at a time when so many are deployed overseas away from their families,” Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said today in a statement.
