THE federal government has backed down on its controversial Australian Defence Force pay deal, agreeing to give soldiers all previously existing entitlements, as Tony Abbott conceded the Coalition had experienced a “ragged week”.

But the Prime Minister is refusing to budge on the 1.5 per cent pay increase for defence members, following intense lobbying by independent senator Jacqui Lambie, the Labor Party and military groups.
