Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Veterans’ Mental Health

The first meeting of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Veterans’ Mental Health was held in Canberra on 24 July 2014.

Chaired by retired Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Crane AO, CSC, RAN (Ret’d) the 11 members bring a broad range of views and experience to the table. Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith VC, MG will serve as Deputy Chair.

The Council will meet twice a year and will assist the Government in improving understanding of the unique nature of military service and its impact on mental health.

The formation of this Council recognises the importance of ensuring the system to support those who have served our nation is modern, responsive and innovative.

The emphasis of the Council will be on providing practical advice on policies and programmes to tackle mental health challenges faced by veterans and their families.
