                                  REMEMBERING OUR RESERVE FORCES

TODAY, on the 20th anniversary of Reserve Forces Day, Australians are encouraged to recognise the vital role our Navy, Army and Air Force Reservists have played, and continue to play, in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

download 16Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said Reserve Forces Day was first held on 1 July 1998 to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the reforming of the Citizen Military Forces after the Second World War.

“Our part-time forces have served alongside their full-time comrades throughout Australia’s military history—from the Boer War through to present day,”
Mr Chester said.
“Reservists have always volunteered in times of emergency, playing an important role in rebuilding the lives of entire communities and today, on Reserve Forces Day, we acknowledge and thank these brave men and women.
“I encourage all Australians to take the time to honour the determination and courage shown by the many thousands of men and women serving Australia in the Australian Defence Force Reserves.
“Equally, I thank the partners, families and employers who support our Reservists when they are called on to assist in domestic and international operations.”
