Shot in the dark ringing hollow – Ross Eastgate

For impoverished defence superannuants, this weeks announcement that Labor if re-elected will revise how their pensions are indexed smacks of the crack-thump of an electoral promise passing overhead.

In this case our dear leader chose not to make the announcement himself, for that may have exposed him to some hostile return fire, choosing instead to delegate the task to the so-called defence minister-elect, Colonel Dr Mike Kelly, Labors member for Eden-Monaro.

Why this government and its resurrected prime minister were incapable of making this same decision in the early days of their incumbency escapes those who have watched the value of their totally contributory pensions evaporate.
