Australian Defence Force outlines pay offer to remuneration tribunal   Phillip Thomson – Public Service Reporter at the Canberra Times reports:

The Australian Defence Force says its below-inflation pay offer to tens of thousands of members will cost the Abbott government $634 million and should be supported before the existing arrangement expires, because back pay is not an option.

In a hearing at the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal on Wednesday, the ADF’s advocate said the proposed pay rise would be given in a time of financial constraints and unpredictable world events.

ADF personnel among ‘best paid in the world’, Vice Chief says as tribunal defers pay deal decision  Andrew Greene – ABC  Political Reporter  reports:

The tribunal has adjourned to consider the Government’s proposal for servicemen and women to receive a pay increase of 1.5 per cent a year for three years, which is less than the current inflation rate.

Members of the ADF do not get a chance to vote on their pay agreements like other public servants, with the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal (DFRT) assessing the offer.

UNIFORMED personnel are disappointed with a lower-than-inflation pay rise but the Australian Defence Force insists it’s the best it could do.

ABOUT 11,000 defence members have had a say on the proposed 1.5 per cent annual pay increase since it was announced on Friday, with 90 per cent unhappy with the three-year proposal.
