One year ago today, on 8 July 2021, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), issued Letters Patent, which established the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide. Since then the Royal Commission has made substantial inroads in progressing our inquiries into Defence and veteran suicide.
Hearing Block 5 – Townsville Over the last two weeks of June the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide conducted public hearings in Townsville. The Commissioners were able to hear from, and ask questions of, former government ministers, mental health experts, representatives from support organisations, former Chair of the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce, the Hon. Leonard Roberts-Smith, and members of the Australian Defence Force, including General Angus Campbell, Chief of the Defence Force.
